iPhone applications repositories
« on: May 15, 2008, 06:48:48 AM »
This list is for owners of unlocked/jailbroken iPhone phones. Besides the default repositories in Installer.App, there are many wonderful software for iPhone around, located in smaller repositories which you just have to remember. And in case you need to restore your iphone or update the firmware, your repositories list will be lost, and you will have to find the apps one by one again. So here they are, all the good iphone applications as I remember them, feel free to add!

To add custom repository open Installer, go to the last tab (sources), click Add there, enter the URL of repository, and save - it should refresh the sources and new applications will be available for installation!

Book reader based on the original Books.app but more convinient, faster books opening, supporting FB2 format (most important!), scrolling with volume buttons, adjustable books library location, and more.

price: free

Repository containing mostly bad quality commercial iPhone apps from RipDev, it also has Russian language keyboard for free (though nag screen is quite annoying). Buggy but allows to type russian when you need it.

price: free with nag screen
requires: MobileEnhancer and reboot

Automatic shortcut substitution, useful when you have to type lots of email/sms. Has default shortcut lists and you can create custom ones. CU can be expanded into "see you" etc.

price: free

Repository iSpazio containing many interesting iPhone applications like games and so on. For a listing, just add it. Some examples: FileBrowser (the best file browsing app)

Ringtones
Create ringtones from your own music right on your iPhone! Pick any iTunes mp3 on your phone, select start and end (should be around 30 seconds or less for best results), then create a Ringtone that you can assign just as any default iPhone Ringtone. Very neat although sometimes may be buggy. New version allows assigning any mp3 tune directly, without converting to Ringtone, so space is saved.

price: free
requires: ScrewCommon package and reboot

MNPlight - free your iPhone from iTunes
Everybody who has an iPhone and syncs with Windows knows that iTunes sucks ass beyond words. It it is buggy (can delete all the songs from your iPhone), does not allow syncing to two computers, is slow, unreliable, and inconvinient. But surprisingly there had been no real alternative so far, so every attempt counts. MNPlight is not an ideal solution but at least something that can work, cross-platform, without iTunes, and allow you to sync contacts, calendars, songs, and more.

price: free
requires: browser access, WinSCP/shell access for copying files

NemusSync - Google Calendar & iPhone Sync Wirelessly. Sync your iPhone calendar with your Google Cal. Seriously, I was surprised this was not included by default by Apple - one of the most needed apps.

price: free
requires: Google Account and calendar service (free)
